Traditional American Square Dance - South Lyon, Michigan

Where and When: Square dances are offered in the South Lyon area of southeast Michigan (including Dexter, Ann Arbor, Novi) from September through May each year. All dances are called and taught by Dave Smith, who has been calling since 2004.No Experience Necessary: All dances are taught before being danced, so no experience is necessary. You do not need to attend any classes in order to participate in traditional square dancing (unlike "Modern Western Square Dancing", which often requires years of classes to participate).Fast Paced: However, traditional square dances tend to be fast paced and require good physical condition in order to keep pace. Please note that our traditional square dances also includes contra dancing (a type of square dancing done from lines facing rather than squares).

Schedule for 2026: The dance schedule is not published on the internet, but if you are interested in attending, you can email [email protected]. Please title the email "add me to the square dance email list", and in the text, please let me know the following: your full name, where you live, and the email you would like added to the email reminder list for square dancing. Once you join the email list, you will recieve an email approximately 12 times a year about square dances you could attend in southeast Michigan. Please be sure to add [email protected] to your contacts so that the email won't go to spam.
